Louisiana Bayous by PakCanoe

Alligator Viewing, Louisiana 1997

Dear Alv,

I just wanted to write and let you know how much my wife and I have enjoyed our new canoe. We bought one of the 15 foot models in December and have been exploring the swamps and bayous of south Louisiana ever since. We live in an apartment, so the storage factor is great. We haven’t taken it on any expeditions, but just use it for short trips on a regular basis. Before I bought the boat I had some concerns about the skin getting punctured on one of the many submerged trees and cypress knees. However, after many bumps and snags, it showes no signs of wear. Another big advantage is that it is so quiet. We recently approached an alligator sunning himself on a log. He was oblivious to our presence until a friend in a hardshell canoe bumped his boat with his paddle. After that, all we had to watch was the wake left by our prehistoric neighbor’s belly flop.

The only disadvantage is in the assembly. It usually takes around forty-five minutes. The boat itself goes together in about 25 minutes, but we spend another 20 minutes answering questions like “Where did you get that?” or “That is great, do you like it?” from curious onlookers. The boat has really made a beautiful part of the country accessible tfor us. Thanks for a quality product.

Sincerely,
Jeff Stancil
