Dear Alv Thanks for your reply. I've been looking at the stories of trips posted on your website which has made me keen on doing more trips. While travelling in North America, we did the Bowran Lakes circuit in BC for 6 days, the Moose river on the Kenai peninsula in Alaska for 3 days, a day trip on a river in Montana and a day trip in the Everglades. On the way home, we stopped off in New Zealand and did the Wanganui River for 4 days. I was very pleased with the performance of the canoe and it was a great conversation piece with other canoists. Since being back in Australia for 4 1/2 years, I must admit that it hadnt been out of it's bag. There are few rivers of any length in Australia and those where I live in Northern Australia are full of large crocodiles making it unwise to venture out in anything smaller than a 12' aluminium boat. In fact I read recently about a solo kayaker on the Mitchell River (which flows into the Gulf of Carpentaria) having the back torn out of his kayak at night and having to swim to shore in the dark. I've just returned from a weekend at Lawn Hill Gorge in outback Queensland where I had a nice leisurely paddle in the canoe again. If anyone needs information on canoeing in Australia or New Zealand, please feel free to give them my personal email address justinbulling@hotmail.com Regards Justin Bulling. |
